Sen Gatchalian bats for higher salaries for teachers to uplift morale
Senator Win Gatchalian is seeking to increase teachers’ salaries to uplift their morale and to motivate more students to join the country’s teaching force.
In a forum hosted by the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) entitled “Ang Senador at ang Edukasyon,” Gatchalian shared his proposal on how to increase teachers’ salaries, especially at the entry level. The lawmaker proposes to raise the salary grade of Teacher I from Salary Grade 11 to either Salary Grade 13 or 14.
Currently, the salary of a Teacher I position or Salary Grade 11 is at P25,439 under the third tranche of the Salary Standardization Law V. If the salary grade of Teacher I is raised to Salary Grade 13 under the current tranche, the starting pay would be equivalent to P29,798. Based on estimates by the Senator’s Office, this would require an additional P58.6 billion on top of the P379.6 billion annual compensation of Teachers I, II, and III.
When a Teacher I’s salary grade is raised to Salary Grade 14 under the third tranche of the Salary Standardization Law V, the pay would be equivalent to P32,321. This would require approximately P92.1 billion on top of the annual compensation cost of Teachers I, II, and III.
Under the fourth tranche of the Salary Standardization Law which will be effective next year, Step 1 of Salary Grade 13 would be equivalent to P31,320 while Step 1 of Salary Grade 14 will amount to P33,843.
“Isa sa ating mga adbokasiya ay pataasin ang moral ng ating mga guro at hikayatin ang mga estudyante natin na kumuha ng kurso sa pagtuturo. Isang paraan dyan ay taasan po yung sweldo,” said Gatchalian, who is also the chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic Education, Arts and Culture.
Gatchalian also pointed out that the entry-level pay for Filipino teachers is lower compared to other ASEAN countries such as Indonesia (P66,099), Singapore (P60,419), Malaysia (P44,496), Thailand (P37,152), and Vietnam (P36,115).
“Ang guro po ang pinakamahalagang sangkap pagdating sa sektor ng edukasyon dahil direkta silang nagbibigay ng kaalaman sa ating mga mag-aaral. Importante na nasusuportahan natin ang kanilang mga pangangailangan at napapangalagaan ang kanilang kapakanan.” Gatchalian added.

Thank you Senator Win Gatchalian for the support, if this will happen, hindi po kami nagkamali ng pagboto sa iyo. sana po yong Salary Grade 15 ang ipush n'yo yong kay former PBBM salary Grade 35, matagal na pong na left behind ang salary ng Teachers under Pnoy which is yearly 500 lang ang increase tapos super taas po ng bilihin with tax pa po, magkano lang natitira sa increase, under PRRD naman po 1500 ang increase yearly by tranches sa TAXES din po napapapunta plus so many deductions such as GSIS, PHILHEALTH, TAX, sa 1500 1000 lang po natitira sa increase, SUPER TAAS NA PO ng cost of living mga bilihin at sana po yang mga nasa palengke na momonitor po ng gobyerno ang pagtataas nila ng presyo dahil kahit dapat ibaba ang presyo still di nila sinusunod dapat alam ng Trade of Industry o anumang sangay ng gobyerno, wala pong kwenta ang taas ng pasahod kung biglaan din po itataas mga presyo ng bilihin. tutukan nyo po ang presyo ng mga manininda dahil marami po mapagsamantala dahil dito na be blame ang gobyerno sa di pag monitor ng mga presyo sa pamilihan. it has to be marked -up hindi po kung anong presyo magustuhan ng mga manininda sa palengke. maraming salamat po sa concern n;yo sa mga guro, at sana magkaroon din po ng pabahay project para sa mga kaguruan , isa po yan sa dapat cguro nyo cguro maging proyekto dahil marami po sa mga guro ang nangungupahan parin kaya damang dama ng mga guro ang high cost of living . sana po talaga mangyari yan salary increase. ReplyDeleteThank you po Sen Gatchalian. Sa elementary teachers pa lang ubos na sahod sa pag prepare ng learning materials at pagpapaganda at paglilinis ng mga classrooms. Sa bilis ng inflation rate, kulang talaga ang sahod. Kung lubog man sa utang ang mga teachers dahil na rin sa mataas na interest ng mga banjo & coop & lalo na ang gsis. Kung magpapautang ang Governor, sana kung may interest man ay 1% to 2% at mas mainam kung magpautang ng walang interest
ReplyDeleteSana po senator win yong annual medical checkup ng DepEd ay philhealth ang sasagot at sa mga kaukulang nereresita sa Amin ng doctor para naman po mapakinabangan Naman po. namin yong contribution sa health insurance. Naway pagpalain po kayo nga Panginoon.
